FREDERICKSBURG, VA — February 6 Fxbgnews.com Fredericksburg City Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday, Feb. 5, due to below-freezing temperatures expected to refreeze ice on roads and sidewalks, according to an alert posted on the school division’s website.
Officials said the delay will allow for additional daylight and slightly warmer temperatures to improve conditions. “A two-hour delay will provide necessary sunlight and warmer temperatures,” the notice stated. School leaders urged drivers to slow down and remain cautious, noting that icy conditions may persist on sidewalks, parking lots, and other walkways. The division also encouraged heightened awareness of students and pedestrians traveling in potentially hazardous conditions.
FCPS added that some school buses may be unable to safely access or maneuver single-lane roads. In those cases, buses could pick up students at nearby safe locations that differ from their usual stops. Families were advised to plan for possible delays and ensure students wear warm clothing due to low temperatures and longer wait times.
Additionally, the substitute teacher workshop originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. The session will be held at the Walker-Grant Center, located at 200 Gunnery Road.
School officials said they will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
